My current system is giving me problems. Enough that I don't want to keep throwing money at it. I've spend $75 so far without a solid fix and I've been down almost 3 months. We're using an old PIII lappy and that's about it right now. If nothing else, I can maybe rob some parts from the new computer to make two complete (and still decent) systems.

I currently have (from memory - specs are close, may not be 100% right):

Opteron 144
2GB Buffalo PC 3200
BFG 7800
Audigy 2ZS
2x250 GB SATA
Antec truPower 480 Watt
Various DVD drives

The one that I have an opportunity to buy for $200 has these specs:

Cooler Master Case
AMD FX-55 Processor- Water Cooled
(2) BFG 7800 Video cards SLI- Water Cooled
2 gig total OCZ PC4000 3-3-2-8 Platinum Edition
DFI Lan Party MB NF4 SLI-DR
Soundblaster Audigy 2 Sound Card
Plexter DVD Writer
Sony ROM DVD Player
Enermax 600 Watt Power Supply
Floppy Drive
Top of the line Swiftech Water Cooling Kit

(NO Hard Drives or OS, but I have some PATA and of course the SATAs I'm currently running.)

So, would you do it? It's $200 w/ local pick up in TX, but I'll be in TX next month.

Sounds good to me jme...for what i know..lol...i just ordered a new SATA hardrive seagate 400GB 16 mb buffer 300gbs for 49.99 at newegg that includes shipping. Ive got an AMD 3200+ on a Biostar Tforce 6100 with 1 gig of memory and it overclocks to 3.2 gig and runs at 32c thats been sittin here idle for 5 months with no hard drive and im putting it back up on line and use it for my main rig but i will need to get a better video card than the 1 thats built in.

Thanks for your input Bruce. I just don't know that I'm gaining a lot, but I can't find any side by side comparisons for the FX55 and the Opty 144 - or against any modern chips either. Part of me thinks I should hold off and grab a dell w/ an LCD, but I'd need another $200 for that and I have other priorities right now.

I don't game - no time for it. It's basically just a music and family photo computer.

The video cards and water coolers are probably worth 200 bucks and the enermax powersupply isnt cheap either.

I still have that old PIII you sent me jme...lol if ya want it..i think i stole the memory out of it to speed up my bros computers and i have 3 small hard drives..lol

Haha, I'd totally forgotten about that computer. Nah, I don't think I'll be needing it :)
