Woman uses daughter's key, but drives wrong car home

ATHENS, Ohio - Kate Anderson became an accidental car thief when she went to pick up her daughter's car near an Ohio University building last week.

Anderson spotted the nickel-gray Toyota Camry and used her daughter's key to unlock the car, start the engine and drive home - without realizing that the car wasn't her daughter's.

This is the second time I've heard of this involving Toyota cars.

It was said (back in the day, lol) that the same thing happened with Chevy Cavaliers. I used to have an older model but never had that problem, thank goodness!

My dad had a 1960 Pontiac Catalina that you could take the key out of the ignition with the car running.

In this age the cars will not start with out their own key.
There is now a chip in the key,if it does not match
the car will not start and the car locks up.I know this
girl her brother tried to take her car.She had to have a lock
smith fix the car.Now the older cars give them a good push
and they start. It has not been that long a go that you could
get a good running go and pop the clach.

I think some newer cars and SUVs have built-in ignition switches rather than key holes (for key usage). My dad told me a story about how he took the wrong Oldsmobile home one time (two identical next to each other) - and it fit, but that was 20-something years ago.

Yes there was a time they made ---amount of keys alike and so on.
They had a master key at the dealers. When you lost your key they
looked up a number and made you a key.

My car key has a chip in it.You can not use any other key to start my
car.You also can not use my key to start another car.

Who knows what the future holds.

I can remember riding on the running board.Every body did it.
Oh yes thous rumble seats they were great as long as it did not rain.

God bless you

I remember howdy dudee.... I saw it on one of those flashback shows. :D

Back in those day's "Cowboys and Indians" was a most popular play time activity. Then again, the history of the Indians in America had been greatly tainted and the truth of how things were done was hidden and untold.

I'm not so sure I would be so popular in those days.

if they know that Indians cooked in a hoke in the ground, that was lined with deer skin. The Indians had cooking stones that they keepted hot in the fire and would place them in what ever they were cooking as needed.

Yes I know some Hollywood people.I also know a few Indians. They are just like you and every one else.

Did you ever sit and watch the raido?

as to wondering what you are wondering - the answer is yes.. I did know that. I also learned how to make tortilla's from corn or meza rather and a few other things. Like regional people, the various tribes also had their various traditions and ways of doing things. In some, the woman was the one who hunted (rather trapped) smaller prey like squirrel and rabbit while the men hunted the bigger creatures like deer and cantalope - um antelope and the whole tribe would cook and eat together like a family.

as to listening to the radio.. i still do.
