Starting today and ending May 15th, is Christianboards.org's 7th Contest. Since the prize was unclaimed for January and noone won February's contest, it is being relisted in this month's contest as per rule #4.

The prize:
A New Book Newsboys SHINE - make them wonder what you've got - http://www.christianmusicplanet.com/magazine/viewarticle.asp?id=92

A collection of thoughts, hopes and wishful thinking is how Newsboys' frontman Peter Furler sums up the band's new book, "Shine: Make Them Wonder What You've Got." The irony of that statement becomes clear with the turning of each page. This book mirrors the Newsboys' character. It looks fun on the outside (it glows in the dark), but as you delve underneath the cover, you find a depth that's altogether surprising.

Shine is a collection of thoughts, as the Newsboys take turns throughout the book talking about personal experiences that have furthered their spiritual walk. Mixed throughout those thoughts, however, are stark revelations about the Christian condition.

The book opener gives examples of Christians in everyday situations who fail to let Christ live through them. There's the teenager who wears a Christian T-shirt and gossips with a friend, and the driver who rudely cuts off another driver while boasting a bumper sticker that reads: "Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven." What's startling, though, is that the Newsboys get in our faces, asking us to examine ourselves for behavior that doesn't match up with our beliefs.

In a series of short stories that almost read as inspirational sermons, the Newsboys tell Christians that we must let the love of Jesus shine through us. According to the boys, the best way for Christians to change the world is to change ourselves into people who tell others about Jesus by way of example. The life of a Christian is a display of faith, and it's the only way some people learn about God.

Scripturally based and pointedly truthful, the Newsboys' writings wrangle with our conscience as they lay bare the common mistakes Christians make. They don't scold, but tell us what we need to do to reach that ultimate place of joy and communion with God. Paragraph by paragraph, they impart wisdom on the benefits of solitude, the need for prayer and the steps to surrendering ourselves to our creator.

As we read, we learn of the Newsboys' personal struggles and a great deal about the true state of our relationship with God. While some of the teachings are standard fare, others are revelations that probe deep into the soul. One such revelation is that we may be working so hard for God that we are not spending any quality time with Him. The key, according to the Newsboys, is to work on your relationship with God first, and then He will work through you. Rely on His strength.

A handbook of spiritual growth, Shine challenges readers to get real about their faith. Only then, say the Newsboys, will the world wonder what we've got.
