VALLETTA (Reuters) - An image of Christ's immersion in water by John the Baptist will be shown on Maltese euro coins, reflecting the cultural heritage of the deeply religious Mediterranean island, officials said Thursday.
Malta, which joined the European Union in 2004, hopes to adopt the single currency in January, 2008. Each member of the 25-member EU is allowed to design one side of the euro coins.
